friends of paradise park
Paradise Park is bordered by Hiddingh Avenue, Paradise Road and Bucksburn Road. This potentially beautiful area was neglected, overgrown, dirty and a sometime home to vagrants. A committee of residents, known as Friends of Paradise Park (FOPP) and focused on the overall upgrading of the park, was formed in September 2011. FOPP is liaising closely with Council about priority areas like lighting, fencing, upgrading of play equipment and general maintenance. We also fundraise and organise events to supplement Council funds and resources, and we hope to bring more residents back to the park through a generally more pleasant experience, and small fun events.
Progress so far has been made in the following areas:
- The upgrade of fencing along Paradise Road
- The upgrade of the children's play area (new jungle gym, rubber matting underneath and around the play equipment)
- Alien vegetation has been cleared from the river by the Friends of the Liesbeeck
- The park is mowed and irrigated more regularly
- Two successful events for children have been organised.
Long and medium-term projects include improved lighting, implementing a planting plan and improving the maintenance of the gardens.
The children's Morning Market held in the park in late 2011 was a lot of fun for the children who sold their wares, and the parents who funded it!

The first river clean up by Friedns of the Liesbeeck.
The cracked and overgrown boundary wall bordering the Shell Garage and the children's play ground has been repaired and painted. Indigenous agapanthus have been planted and the trees trimmed.
